Our Farm Team: Nick & Josh
As we move into a new year we wanted to take some time to reintroduce you to each member of our farm team! We currently have four members on our farm team, each with specific tasks and programming they manage on the farm. This week, you’ll be able to learn more about Nick and Josh. And next week, we’ll share more about Nathan and Imran with you.
Meet Nick! As Lead Farm Educator, Nick oversees the farm team and all of our programming in addition to managing the CSA program. Nick initially got into farming as a way to remain active and work with his hands but soon realized he wanted to be part of improving the food system in his community. As a farmer he wants to shift the conversation of what’s “healthy” to include food that is sourced locally and grown in a sustainable way. Nick’s favorite vegetables to grow are peppers, particularly Italian frying peppers like Corno di Toros and Cornito Rosso.
Meet Josh! He is the head of our wholesale program, direct-seeding program, and specialty produce. As head of the wholesale program, Josh is responsible for getting our vegetables into the hands of talented local chefs. As for why he is a farmer, the simple answer is that he loves food! He brings his love of food and cooking to the production side, focusing on the best way to grow a great-tasting and nutritious quality product. Josh’s favorite vegetables to grow are winter squashes, particularly Tatume and mini butternuts.
Currently in Season: Carrots, Beets, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Rainbow Chard, Cabbages, Snow Peas, Head Lettuce, Spinach, Kohlrabi, Radicchio, Brussels Sprouts, Fennel, Turnips, Parsley, Cilantro, and Dill.
