Did you know that every month throughout the school year we provide organic produce from the farm for the Harvest of the Month Program at Neill Elementary School? This week is the last harvest of 2025 and carrots are on the menu! In addition to tasting some of our carrots, the kiddos will learn about nutrition facts, how this root veggie grows, and more fun veggie facts. We can’t wait to hear about their experience with this beloved cool season crop!

It’s salad season on the farm! We are currently harvesting 5 different lettuce varieties that are perfect for a crisp and fresh salad: Romaine, Mini Red Romaine, Red Butterhead, Mini Bibb, and frilly Muir. If you love crunch in your salads, we recommend going with either of our romaine varieties. Love soft and tender lettuce? Go for the Butterhead or Mini Bibb! If you don’t have a preference, we recommend mixing a few varieties together so you get a combination of flavors and textures. Come check out all of these varieties at the Farm Stand on Saturday!

Remember the onions that we planted in the north field back in October? They’ve put on a lot of green growth and are looking really good! Onions (below) are one of our long day crops which means they will spend a significantly longer time in the ground than the majority of our other crops. Once the stalks start to size up in late winter/early spring, we’ll be thinning the plants and harvesting immature “spring onions”. This allows the remaining plants plenty of room for the bulbs to develop and grow before they’re harvested later in the spring season.
