Spring Gardening Class this Sunday and Spring Kickoff on March 2nd

February 22nd, 2024

We have a few spots remaining for our Seasonal Gardening Series this Sunday, February 25th, at 2pm! This class focuses specifically on the spring growing season and is meant to expand your home gardening skills. Farmer Nathan will greet everyone in the greenhouse to discuss the various stages of plant development before delving into our favorite varieties to grow. Attendees will gain hands-on planting experience and will receive a tomato transplant for their own home garden. This class is suitable for beginners and is open to the public. Make sure to secure your spot here!

If you aren’t able to make it to our gardening class but still want to help us celebrate spring’s arrival, we invite you to join us for our Spring Kickoff at the Farmers Market! This event takes place during the Farmers Market on Saturday, March 2nd, from 9am-1pm. Join the farmers, vendors, and the community for a bevy of outdoors activities that celebrate the abundance of life and energy that accompanies the arrival of spring. We’ll have a wildflower seed bomb making activity in addition to an animal meet-and-greet, a seedling sale, and a bounce house. This event is open to the public so we hope to see you there!

The first tomatoes of the season have been planted in the tunnel! This is the earliest we’ve ever been able to plant tomatoes which is due in large part to the protection the tunnels can provide against potential freezes. All of the varieties planted in the tunnel are indeterminates which means they will continue to grow, flower, and set fruit until killed by frost or extreme heat. We chose indeterminates for the tunnel since we will be able to maximize the vertical growing space more efficiently than is possible in the field. We’ll share more about the special trellising system we’ll be implementing in a couple of weeks so stay tuned.
