Summertime Events and New Crops on the Farm

If you've been considering joining our Friends of the Farm membership program, now is the time to come aboard! This month's seasonal perk for Friends of the Farm features an exclusive U-Pick day in our Fig Orchard on Sunday, July 26th – more details to follow soon! Mark your calendars for our Fresh Finds and Cool Slide farmers market on Saturday, July 25th! Kids can cool off on a giant water slide while adults shop for handmade products from local businesses and stock up on Village Farm organic veggies!

We are also in the early stages of preparing more Farm Club plots in anticipation for the Fall Season cohort! Summertime is a slower season on the farm when we take intentional time to renovate growing spaces for residents who are interested in joining the Club at the beginning of the Fall season in September. Getting a timely start to your garden is a great way to ensure quality harvests and healthy plants throughout the season!

Summertime on a Texas farm means hauling in big harvests of okra every other day! This crop is extremely heat tolerant and produces new pods at a vigorous pace. Though okra has been in season for some time now, this week we wanted to highlight our red okra - Carmine Splendor. This variety is less common but just as tasty as the traditional green type, and it actually loses its red hue when cooked! Try it out at the market this Saturday and stay tuned as our Korean melons continue to ripen and will be ready for harvest soon!
