Tomato Talk and La Tomatina Padre Coming up in June!

We’re in peak tomato season on the farm which means our Tomato Week is swiftly approaching! Come celebrate this beloved summer fruit by joining Farmer Nathan for our annual Tomato Talk on Tuesday, June 10th from 6-7pm. We’ll discuss the critical growing window for tomatoes in the Houston region, our tried and true tomato varieties that perform well on the farm, and the process of care involved from up-potting to trellising to pruning. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore our tomato plants and sample every variety we currently have growing. This class is a ticketed event that is open to the public. We’ll close out Tomato Week with our much-anticipated La Tomatina Padre, an event exclusively for Harvest Green residents! La Tomatina Padre takes place on Saturday, June 14th from 10am-12pm and invites kids to playfully toss tomatoes at their fathers or father figures. After the last tomato has been thrown, you’ll be able to cool down with water activities and nosh on some light bites made with produce from the farm. This ticketed event is for residents of Harvest Green only. Make sure to snag a spot for your family here! 

If cooking is your preferred way to celebrate the small but mighty tomato, we highly recommend taking advantage of them during peak season! Tomato season is fairly short in our region so now is the perfect time to eat your fill. If making tomato sauce or paste is your jam, we are now offering a special deal for our “sauce tomatoes” exclusive for Harvest Green residents. Sauce tomatoes are still great tasting and high quality but do not meet the premium standards of our normal tomatoes, and starting this week you can purchase 20 pound boxes of slicing and/or paste tomatoes at the Farm Stand for just $50, a great discount and savings based on our non-bulk pricing. Onions, leeks, peppers, and basil are all in season as well which would make great additions to your sauce! If you are a Harvest Green resident, simply request a 20-pound box at the Farm Stand on Saturday or pick up a pint or two of cherry tomatoes if that’s more your speed.
