Welcoming a New Member to the Farm Team

Join us in welcoming our newest member of the farm team, Bethany! While new to Harvest Green, she has been working at an Agmenity farm outside of College Station for the past year. Growing up surrounded by livestock and a family garden initially sparked Bethany’s interest in agriculture. She studied animal science and agronomy at Texas A&M and received her masters in international agricultural development. Bethany is looking forward to getting to know the community here at Harvest Green and once she gets settled, she will be stepping in to take over our Farm Club program. Make sure to say hello if you see her around the farm!

May was an incredibly productive month on the farm. We harvested a whopping 3600 lbs of food! May is typically the month when the farm really hits its stride in terms of diversity and this year was certainly no exception. From kohlrabi to green beans to the first tomatoes and cucumbers of the season, it was truly a delicious month. If you’re wondering how you can get yours hands on the abundance of fruits and veggies we’re currently harvesting, you have three different options:

  1. Through our farm stand on Saturdays from 8am-noon

  2. Through our Vegetable Share Program (currently for Harvest Green residents only)

  3. Through any of the following Houston-area restaurants that work their magic with our produce: Cafe Louie, Nancy’s Hustle, and Ostia

Have you been enjoying our delicious variety of tomatoes this season?! If you’ve been wanting to dive into the growing and harvesting side of this beloved crop, we have just the thing for you! Next Tuesday, June 14th from 7-8 pm on the farm, Farmer Nathan will be leading a Tomato Talk. Attendees will learn about tomato biology, care and maintenance of tomato plants, and some of the varietals growing at Village Farm - taste testing included! Space is limited so make sure to sign up here. And, if that wasn’t enough tomato hoopla, La Tomatina Padre, our annual celebration of tomato season, is on Saturday, June 18th! This resident-only event takes place on the farm and costs only $5 per family. Your ticket, which includes the tomato toss, slip-n-slide, and small bites and beverages from Messina Hof can be secured here. We hope to see you there!

Currently in Season at the Farm Stand: Tomatoes (slicing, cherry, and paste varieties), Hot and Sweet Peppers, Eggplant, Okra, Cucumbers (slicing and pickling varieties), Melons, Zucchini, Beets, Carrots, Fennel, Leeks, Onions, Basil, and Mint.
