At Village Farm there is always time to celebrate good food. From our seasonal farmers market kickoffs, to yearly Father's Day tomato throws, we find common ground by sharing meals and memories together! This week the farmers relished in the very first harvest of arugula and radishes by making Parisian sandwiches! Check out the recipe below and be sure to stop by the special DJ Farmers Market this Saturday to get your own fresh ingredients and request your favorite song while you shop for other local goods!

Are you interested in starting a backyard garden this Fall? Join Farmer Alyssa for our annual Cool-Season Gardening Series on Friday, October 25th, from 5:30 - 6:30pm! We will explore the best vegetable varieties to grow throughout Fall and Winter, while walking through the farm to observe organic growing techniques first hand. Invite a friend to enjoy an evening on the farm, and leave with confidence in starting your Fall garden!

While we harvest the first round of arugula and radishes, other crops like carrots and beets have just germinated! To keep weeds at bay in beds of these direct seeded crops, we are using a common market gardening technique called flame weeding. This terminates small weeds through intense, contained heat and is less labor intensive than using a garden hoe to manually remove weeds. Parisian Sandwich Recipe :

1 Bag of Arugula
1 Bunch of Radishes
1 French Baguette
1 round of Brie Cheese
½ lb of Prosciutto
1 jar Quince or Fig jam
Honey to drizzle

Toast baguette then top with jam, cheese, prosciutto, radishes, arugula, and add a drizzle of honey! Enjoy in the company of loved ones!
