Last week we harvested the first arugula and radishes of the season! This officially marks the beginning of the transition from summer to fall produce and was celebrated with Parisian Sandwich Day, our annual farmer tradition. Here’s how we made our celebratory sandwiches: pile arugula, sliced radishes, prosciutto, brie, and quince or fig jam on your favorite bread (we love a baguette). Add a drizzle of honey and a sprinkle of salt then enjoy! Though the first arugula harvest was set aside for our Veggie Share members, you can find radishes at the Farm Stand this Saturday and arugula in the coming weeks!Â

Fall planting continued this week as we planted the first rounds of broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage in the field. Each of these varieties has a much longer harvest window than something like our quick-growing radishes so you can expect to see them closer to Thanksgiving. If you’re curious about these particular varieties, or any others we’ve been planting for fall, we invite you to join us for our Monthly Farm Tour this Saturday, September 20th, at 10 am! This is a great way to explore the seasonality of our climate, plus our tours are free of charge, open to the public, and are always accompanied by a taste test of current crops. We hope to see you there!Â

Neill Elementary School celebrated their first Harvest of the Month of the school year with a beloved favorite: roselle greens! Of all the veggies we’ve harvested as part of this program over the years, this one is definitely at the top of the students’ list. It’s always a joy to see the kids bring their parents to the market after the Harvest of the Month feature to try new and exciting vegetables. Though roselle greens are out of season this week, we will have a limited amount of roselle hibiscus pods for you to try on Saturday that have an equally delicious tart and tangy flavor.Â
