This week our new flock of chickens arrived at their home at Harvest Green! These egg-laying hens are just five weeks old and a variety of different breeds like the traditional Rhode Island Red and more exotic Starlight Green Egger! Once the chickens begin laying this Fall, the egg cartons will be a colorful combination as the egg shell’s pigment is determined by the breed and genes of each hen. The chickens are temporarily housed in the enclosed coop as they acclimate to the space, but will soon be introduced to the larger outdoor grazing pen for visitor viewing!

If you’ve been enjoying our spring onions at the Farmers Market, we have more alliums coming your way in abundance! This week we are bulk harvesting our sweet, white, and red onions that will be cured and stored for selling throughout the spring and summer months. We’ve also harvested our first Sungold tomatoes and slicing cucumbers! If you want first dibs on these spring crops, be sure to check out our Veggie Share program as new vegetable harvests are offered to members first!
