If you’ve been keeping up with our weekly produce offering at the Veggie Wagon, you would know that we recently took peppers off of the menu. Believe it or not, we have already seeded our new crop of peppers! We look forward to growing the same tried and true varieties that bring a pop of flavor and color to your meals throughout the year. To keep it exciting, we have also added a few new pepper types that we hope you will find tasty! They include : Red Chili, Round of Hungary (sweet), and Sweet Sunrise (sweet, orange).

As we dive deeper into our Spring seeding, we wanted to take a moment to answer a common question we get as farmers : Do you save your seeds and can we purchase them from you? We actually purchase our seeds from companies that source directly from seed production farms, which are managed a bit differently than Village Farm. However, if you’re interested in getting vegetable plants of the same variety we grow on the farm, stay tuned for our Spring Kickoff where we will be selling a variety of Spring season plants!

Though we are preparing for Spring, our Farm Club members are still hauling in big winter harvests! Tifanni, a seasoned member, has leveled-up her gardening skills this year by growing a unique and beautiful purple cauliflower variety as captured above. Tifanni noted that she is working toward creating a colorful farming space, as she would like to show others that vegetables can be just as vibrant and beautiful as flowers.

One of the exciting features of the Harvest Green Farm Club is the member’s ability to curate their own gardening menu inspired by eating preferences and new farming techniques. In addition to the vegetable plants that farmers provide for members, most of our club enjoys experimenting and bringing a taste of their cooking culture to the farm plots. This week our farmers are excited to welcome a new winter crop to the Veggie Share and Farm Stand - Celery! If you’re looking for a healthy after-school snack, this subtly sweet and tender celery is great to make Ants-on-a-Log. At the Farm Stand along with celery, you can also pick up fennel and carrots for a nice spin on the French culinary Mirepoix base used in many soups and stews.
