Planting Fall Crops and Farm Tour on the 29th

September 12th, 2024

The second wave of fall crops was transplanted in the field this week! This round included leafy greens like kale, collards, and mustards along with cauliflower. We also direct-seeded Hakurei turnips and another round of arugula in the tunnel. Since a lot of the fall crops we’ve planted thus far grow fairly quickly, you can expect to see them trickling back into season over the next few weeks. We hope you’re as excited for this seasonal shift as we are!

Our fall succession of bush beans is coming along nicely! This variety is called Trilogy and it yields a trio of green, yellow, and purple beans. Unlike our long beans that need trellis support, bush beans grow on short, bushy plants that don't require added support (below). As our long beans start to wane, this colorful mix of bush beans will lend diversity to our early fall harvests. We’ll let you know as soon as they make their way to the Farm Stand!

Our monthly farm tours return later this month! We invite you to join us on Sunday, September 29th at 1pm for the first Meet the Farm Tour of the fall season. Each tour provides the opportunity to learn about what’s in season, complete with tasting samples. You’ll also have the chance to visit with our resident goats and chickens and ask our Farm Educators any questions you have about what it takes to grow food year-round. Our Meet the Farm Tours are open to the public and free of charge. Sign up here to reserve your spot!
