Record Breaking Tomato Season Recap

This year has been our longest tomato season to date at Village Farm - and we have the vines to prove it! The team is holding a Cherry Bomb tomato vine measuring just over 20 feet long! An impressive life cycle that began as tiny seeds in the greenhouse last December, then transferred to the high tunnel in early February to flourish into productive plants throughout the Spring and Summer. With a goal to extend tomato season each year, we succeeded in breaking previous records with our first harvest in March and last harvest in late July!

Our tomatoes aren't the only thing showing off their peak production - the new chicken flock is now producing about 20 eggs per day! As a special summer perk, our Friends of the Farm members received the very first eggs this week. This new membership option is a great way to stay rooted in your neighborhood farm and enjoy seasonal farm offerings throughout the year. This week we extend a big thanks to our committed volunteers who come each Thursday morning to help with harvest! During the summer season, we aim to complete harvest within the first few hours of early morning to keep the veggies cool and crisp before washing and packaging.
