Join us in welcoming our newest farmer, Hunter, to Harvest Green! Hunter hails from the Houston area and comes from a lineage of onion farmers in South Texas. As a trained mechanic and chef, Hunter finds joy in using and working on our farm machinery, like the BCS walk-behind tractor! However, the true passion that fuels him is the ability to help produce good food that is integral to the nourishment and enjoyment of our customers. If you see Hunter on the farm be sure to say hello!

This week we anticipate the coming of Fall by seeding our first cool-season crops like kale, collards, and Swiss chard. We are also starting a crop of Fall flowers and look forward to hosting a beautiful autumn U-Pick bouquet event! Before our new seedlings enter the field, we are also making room for a summertime crop that is quick to grow and produce edible pods - Edamame! This staple vegetable in Japanese cuisine can also serve as a great school snack or simple side dish at dinner time.

If you've taken a walk through the farm recently, you may have noticed gorgeous green vines growing close to the chickens – this is our new pumpkin patch! Historically, pumpkins have been a challenging crop to grow at Village Farm due to the infamous Squash Vine Borer and the over 100 day growing period for most pumpkin varieties. So far, this patch has flourished through difficult summer days and we are excited to track its progress moving forward!
