Special Holiday Farm Stand on Tuesday

December 14th, 2023

Come join us on Tuesday, December 19th from 4-6pm for a special holiday Farm Stand! We are harvesting an incredibly delicious and colorful assortment of veggies at the moment so we wanted to give you an extra opportunity to snag some for holiday meals! This special Farm Stand takes place at the Harvest Green Farmhouse and is open to the public. We’ll have two kinds of spinach for you (baby and large leaf) in addition to the first of the season fennel. For a full list of what we’ll have available, make sure to scroll down to the bottom of the post. We hope to see you there!

We are harvesting two new crops for you this week: fennel and purple cabbage. Fennel (below) is one of Farmer Nathan’s absolute favorite crops! It has a mild anise flavor that mellows as it cooks in addition to a lovely sweetness. He recommends roasting the bulb with root veggies or adding it to a batch of tomato sauce. As for our purple cabbage, it has beautiful, dense heads that are a great way to add some color to your plate! Farmer Bethany loves to make an herbaceous slaw with shredded purple cabbage, fennel, carrots, cilantro, parsley, and dill. You can add these veggies and herbs to your Vegetable Share or pick them up from the Farm Stand on Saturday.

Our new caterpillar tunnel will soon be joined by two more! The frames are up and we’ll be covering them with greenhouse film before the end of the week. We are excited to get these up and running because our main field is completely full of cool season crops. These tunnels will allow us more flexibility with growing varietals that are either frost or moisture sensitive but most importantly, we’ll be able to grow more food for our community! We are thrilled at the possibilities that lie ahead with these new tunnels and hope you are, too.
