Farm Club Member Spotlight and Open House on the 13th

February 8th, 2024

We are honored to introduce you to one of our original Farm Club members, Scott! He has been a member since 2017 and loves the opportunity the club provides to connect with nature and like-minded people. Plus, being able to eat great produce is definitely a bonus! One of the most interesting things Scott has learned during his journey as a gardener in Farm Club is that when plants reach the end of their life cycle, they aren’t pulled up and discarded. Instead, the roots are left to decompose in place and add organic material to the soil which helps feed the next generation of plants. If you’re a Harvest Green resident and would love to meet current members like Scott and learn more about Farm Club, please join us for our Farm Club Open House on Tuesday, February 13th at 6:30pm in the Farmhouse Event Hall. We look forward to seeing you there!

We planted one last round of winter crops this week that will help us make the transition from winter to spring. Since we’ll be planting the first spring crops in just a couple of weeks, we’re taking care to not overload the field and ensure we have plenty of room. Here’s what we planted: fennel, lettuce, scallions, kohlrabi, Asian greens like tatsoi, and cooler season herbs like dill and cilantro. All of these crops should see us through April until we begin to see the very first spring crops trickle in!

If you’ve been inspired by these spring-like days and are already dreaming up garden plans, we have a couple of events coming up that you might like. On Sunday, February 25th from 2-3pm, you can learn all about the spring planting season in our Spring Gardening Class with Farmer Nathan. He’ll discuss when to begin planting staple veggies and which varieties grow really well in our climate. If you’re interested, you can sign up here. The following weekend on Saturday, March 2nd, we’ll have the first spring seedlings for sale at the Farm Stand. This is the perfect opportunity to snag some of our favorite tried and true varieties for your very own garden! We will have seedlings available at the Farm Stand throughout the month of March while supplies last.
