SEEDLINGS AND SCIENCE NIGHT
There's a lot cooking out at the Village Farm this week. Preparations for Chef Fest are well underway and we are looking forward to the festivities and fun. There will be tours during the event so come ready to explore and learn about your farm!
As our greenhouse fills with seedlings, monitoring their health becomes increasingly important. The warm humid conditions are favorable to diseases and pest, such as fungi that can contribute to "damping off" a plant condition that weakens seeds or seedlings before they mature. We monitor humidity, temperature and airflow of the greenhouse on a schedule to ensure plant health.
Last Thursday was Science Night at Oakland Elementary. Our Farm Educators attended with hands on activities where students were able to learn about the life cycle of beets, feel and smell soil and cilantro and contribute to a poster about items they eat from farms. We had a blast interacting with students and getting them excited about our produce and farming.
