January 8th, 2026

We hope your new year is off to a great start! As we look forward and begin setting goals for 2026, one thing will carry over from years past: we want to continue engaging the community and showing them all that the farm has to offer. Another big goal is to reestablish the fruit orchard located on the farm (separate from the fig orchard) that was wiped out in a past winter storm. And, we’re looking forward to continuing to refine and develop our flower production so we can grow and harvest a beautiful array of flowers for our Mother’s Day event. We’ll be sharing more about upcoming farm events soon so stay tuned!

The arrival of January means it’s time to start the first round of tomato seeds! This round will be specifically for the tunnels since the protection they provide from the elements allows us to plant tomatoes much earlier than in the field. We also started seeds for our peppers as well as the first round of Italian eggplant. Since the weather has been unseasonably warm, it should allow these first spring crops to germinate and grow well in the greenhouse!

At the end of last year we harvested the first of our daikon radishes. It’s been a while since we’ve grown this radish variety but we are excited to add it to our winter lineup at the Farm Stand! Daikon varies in appearance from our other radishes with its elongated shape and white color. It is used extensively in Asian cuisines and has a milder, less pungent flavor than the other radish varieties we grow. We recommend slicing it and adding it to salads or slaws or try dicing it and adding it to your next stir-fry. If you’re a fan of pickles, daikon makes a great quick-pickle!
