Spring Break Farm Day Camp and The Spring Planting

March 8th, 2023

Are you looking for an activity-packed nature experience for your kiddos over Spring Break? We highly recommend signing them up for our Spring Break Nature Excursion happening on the farm on Tuesday, March 14th from 9am-noon! This unique day camp allows kids the opportunity to experience the entire ecology of the farm from veggies to our local bird population, and of course, our farm animals. Attendees will also take part in harvesting food for a tasty farm-to-table lunch. The Spring Break Nature Excursion is open to the public and is for children ages 8-12 years. You can secure their spot here!

All of our tomato rows have been planted for the season! We transplanted our tomatoes at the end of February right before the Spring Kickoff Celebration. Once they were in the ground, we pruned off some of the lower branches to improve air flow and reduce disease issues. Additionally, we removed any of their existing flowers to help the plants direct more energy into developing a healthy root system before they start to bloom and set fruit. Now our focus will lie in trellising and pruning over the next several weeks until we begin to harvest!

In addition to our tomatoes, we planted the first big wave of spring crops last week. We now have 8 rows of peppers in the ground (pictured below) in addition to 2 cucumber rows, 2 green bean rows, and 4 summer squash rows. That’s a lot of delicious food! Though all of these crops were transplanted at the same time, we’ll see our zucchini and patty pan squashes produce fruit first followed closely by our cucumbers. We are most excited to see the return of cucumbers and green beans, how about you?!
