The First Cabbages and Cauliflower of the Season
November 8th, 2022
Check out one of our Vegetable Shares that we just harvested! Did you know that our Vegetable Share program is an exclusive benefit for Harvest Green residents and allows members to receive a customizable bag of certified organic produce from the farm each week? Members can choose from a small (4-6 items) or full (6-8 items) share depending on what suits their needs. If you’re a Harvest Green resident and are curious about signing up for this program, consider joining us this Saturday, November 12th, from 10-11am for a special cooking demo! We’ll be cooking two different recipes for you, answering any questions you might have, and sending you home with a free small share to enjoy! Please sign up here if you’d like to attend.
We’re harvesting the first cabbages of the season for you this week! We have both Caraflex and Napa cabbage varieties. Caraflex (the cabbage on the left in the photo below) has a unique conical shape and tender leaves that are crunchy and mildly sweet. Napa (the cabbage on the right) has crinkly leaves with a mild and sweet flavor. Farmer Nathan loves to use both of these varieties to make cabbage rolls. He fills them with a mixture of rice, ground beef, onions, and peppers. Here’s a similar recipe if you’d like to try it!
All of the cauliflower lovers out there will be pleased to know that we’re harvesting the first of it this week! It will be available in limited quantities for you at the farm stand this weekend. This is the first of many successions of cauliflower that will be harvested throughout fall and winter. Since cauliflower is a “single-cut” crop, we’ve been spacing out plantings in order to ensure a relatively steady supply through the cooler months. What’s your favorite way to eat cauliflower? We’re partial to a simple roast in the oven until it gets nice and caramelized around the edges!
