Backyard Gardening Basics and a Flock Update

SEPTEMBER 27th, 2022

The next class in our Backyard Gardening Basics series is coming up on Saturday, October 15th at 10am! Join Farmer Bethany for “Growing Your Green Thumb,” a class that explores the fundamentals of gardening. We will delve into topics such as seasonal planting, soil preparation, vegetable varieties, and the square foot gardening method. All participants will gain hands-on experience in addition to gardening resources to bring back home. The cost of this class is $10 and it is open to the public. To secure your spot, head here!

How about a chicken update?! It’s been a little over two weeks since our chicks joined the farm. Now that they are 5 weeks old, they are starting to get more adventurous in exploring their coop. Many of them love to fly up onto the roosting bar (which you can see in one of the photos below) and some have even enjoyed a nap up there! In addition to becoming more adventurous and familiar with their space, our chicks have grown in size and their pin feathers have started to come in. Over the next couple of weeks, the pin feathers will replace all of their downy feathers. Feel free to pop by the coop and observe them from the window! We just ask that you do not feed them.

Just in case you missed the announcement last week, our Farmers Market is making its way out of summer mode this Saturday, October 1st. And, from this point forward, our Farmers Market will be held EVERY Saturday from 8am-noon, rain or shine! We wouldn't have a Farmers Market without our awesome vendors or your continued support so we hope you'll come out and join us. Here’s a look at some of the items you’ll be able to purchase from our vendors: gourmet vegan cupcakes from Jeremiah’s Bakery, organic cold-pressed juices from Clean Juice, pasture-raised premium Wagyu beef from Statkar Farms, and handmade organic soy wax candles from Kim’s Soy Kandles.

Currently in Season at the Farm Stand: Arugula, Radishes, Sweet and Hot Peppers, Italian and Asian Eggplants, Long Beans, Zucchini, Tromboncino Squash, Okra, Roselle Greens, Sweet Potato Greens, Bitter Melon, and Basil.
