Remember the first round of fall seeds we planted in the greenhouse a couple of weeks ago? It’s already time to transplant them in the field! Getting these seedlings in the ground means we’re that much closer to the first true taste of fall. This round includes leafy greens that are able to tolerate the warmer temperatures as we transition from late summer into fall. You can expect to see the first harvest for some of these by the beginning of October. Here’s what we planted: Swiss chard, collard greens, komatsuna, tatsoi, Tokyo bekana, and pac choi.

The arugula that we direct-sowed in the tunnels a couple of weeks ago is coming along nicely! Did you know that arugula is one of our fast growing crops? It takes just under a month for it to reach baby size which is when we often harvest it. That’s about as fast as you can get on the farm! Since it grows so quickly, we’ll be planting several more successions throughout the cooler growing season. You can see what it looks like after 2 weeks of growth below. Based on how well it’s done so far, we’ll have the first arugula for you at the Farm Stand by the end of the month!
