Brassica Sprouts Galore & Goats in Costume

Village Farm Team,

The greenhouse is bursting with color as our seeds are quickly germinating. Our brassicas in particular are looking mighty fine. On average, one can expect an 80 to 95 percent germination rate from any given number of planted seeds. Our newly seeded brassicas are at the higher end of that average as nearly every seed has germinated. This will allow us to plant (and eventually harvest) even more than we had anticipated.

Our goats were out and about this past week making appearances at two different Halloween-themed events. A couple of our ladies got to attend Neill Elementary’s Trunk or Treat event where they received lots of love. Another one of our ladies got to dress up like Spiderman and attend Harvest Green’s own Trail of Treats. Attending these events give our goats a chance to work on their social skills while also providing an opportunity for the public to learn all about them.

After a couple of nail-biting weeks’ worth of waiting, we finally have visible germination from our seeds on the South Farm! Though it can be hard to tell from the initial sprout, the farm team spotted beets, kale, and snap peas beginning to grow. Soon we hope to spot signs of our turnips, carrots, and leeks. Now comes the task of making sure we keep weeds away so they don’t choke out our beautiful sprouts.

The team has been busy planning and preparing for Harvest Fest again this week. This free festival will take place next Saturday, November 11th, from 11am to 3pm in the model home park. In addition to our veggie wagon and farm animals there will be a lot of great local vendors and food trucks. We hope to see you there! For more information on the event, head here.

Happy Harvesting,

The Agmenity Farm Team
